Student Example 3

In my Expressive Sense lesson, 7th grade artists discussed expressionism and viewed non-objective art. They were given the provocation to draw what sound, taste, touch and smell look like. After creating expressionistic sketches of these senses, the class worked together to define graphic design and brainstorm examples of it. Students were then challenged to create original graphic designs inspired by one of their expressive sense drawings. Students chose mediums that best expressed their design and were encouraged to stretch and explore.
