Hannah West was born and raised in central Maine. She moved to Brooklyn, NY to study Communication Design with a focus in Illustration at Pratt Institute. She studied abroad in Venice, Italy in 2012 where she assisted in an intaglio class. Since graduating from Pratt in 2013 she has worked as a freelance illustrator and an early childhood teacher. She now resides in Buxton, ME where she has a small homestead. Her art is predominately inspired by nature. She uses drawing, watercolor, woodworking and natural dye methods in her work.
Hannah is currently enrolled in Maine College of Art’s M.A.T. program, where she has been immersed in enriching her teaching practice with a blend of theory and hands-on experiences. Within this program she has implemented lessons in various community and public school settings in the greater Portland area. She has completed internships at Buxton Center Elementary School and Gorham Middle School. During these placements she developed relationships with her students, mentor teachers and school community to best understand how to implement her unit plans to engage all students in authentic learning. This was an enriching experience that has left her feeling eager to continue her practice as an art educator at the Elementary and/or Middle School level.
