Hannah West was born and raised in central Maine. She moved to Brooklyn, NY to study Communication Design with a focus in Illustration at Pratt Institute. She studied abroad in Venice, Italy in 2012 where she assisted in an intaglio class. In 2017 Hannah graduated from Maine College of Art’s M.A.T. program, where she enriched her teaching practice with a blend of theory and hands-on experiences. Within this program she implemented lessons in various community and public school settings in the greater Portland area. She has completed internships at Buxton Center Elementary School and Gorham Middle School. During these placements she developed relationships with her students, mentor teachers and school community to best understand how to implement her unit plans to engage all students in authentic learning.
Hannah has worked as a freelance illustrator, art instructor and an early childhood teacher. She now resides in Buxton, ME where she has a small homestead. Her art is predominately inspired by nature. She uses drawing, watercolor, woodworking and natural dye methods in her work.
